Doesn’t this sound familiar – You have just purchased a beautifully presented candle or melt from a well-known store or gift shop that looks and smells absolutely divine.
Arrived home eager to burn your new purchase only to find that the aroma lasts for a very short time and in most cases does not even last through to the end of the product?
Or perhaps even just assumed that this the normal and they are only made to last a few hours? You also get a strange ‘plastic’ or ‘chemical like’ smell towards the end of it?
You have probably, as with all store bought candles, purchased a ‘production-line’ made candle. They have a very poor fragrance throw and are made to create a ‘quick’ fragrance whereupon your senses will pick up the scent quickly ‘tricking’ you into believing that you have purchased a high end quality product that has an amazing fragrance throw.
By the time the fragrance has ‘burnt’ out your brain has been tricked into believing that hours and hours have passed where in fact you have only had indeed short bursts.
They are actually produced on the production line, which goes through a spraying system. This system sprays the synthetic fragrance onto the candle which embeds itself about 1mm – 3mm in. That’s it. Test it yourself. Next time you are in your favourite candle shop buy a candle perhaps a small votive and cut it in half. I have done it. I just had to know – and I was devastated.
Thus began the journey of my candle making venture. That was 4 years ago.
